Vascular anomalies

Dr Pacilli has a specific interest in vascular anomalies and he established the Vascular Anomaly Multidisciplinary Meeting at Monash Children’s Hospital in 2020. The team include 23 doctors from 11 different medical and surgical specialties. Monash Children’s Hospital is one of only 3 Australian Centres recognised by the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA).

Vascular anomalies occur when arteries, veins, capillaries or lymphatic vessels do not develop properly. Many of these anomalies are already present at birth, but others may become noticeable later on in life. They vary greatly in size, colour, location on the body, and associated symptoms. Some are easily visible on the child and can be unsightly, but do not pose health risks. Others occur internally and especially if large, can pose significant health risks.

Specific conditions treated by Dr Pacilli include haemangiomas and capillary malformations (birth marks), and lymphatic malformations.
